Rafaella Leathers, EdS
Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern (RMHCI)
Hi! My name is Rafaella Leathers (Raf) and I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. I completed both my bachelors and my masters at the University of Florida and have continued to call Gainesville home for many years now. As each year passes, I continue to grow and learn so much about myself and others. I believe that to be human is to feel, many things, probably all at once, and to hold space for everything we are and all that comes up. I strongly believe that emotions need a witness, another fellow human to remind us that we are not alone.
I am a therapist that collaborates and works with you and believes you are the expert in your life. I am always honored that I get to see and share the complexities of feelings and emotions with those I work with. I operate from a place of relationship- one of the best and most healing tools. I’m a very strength-based and person-centered therapist that incorporates a variety of therapeutic techniques to best hold space for you.
As someone who is very familiar with therapy itself, I know what it feels like to sit on the other side of the room and I strongly value giving you a sense of autonomy as well. I’m a never-ending student myself when it comes to personal growth and the relationships we have with ourselves and those around us. I have spent my clinical experiences so far at Pace Center for Girls and UF Shands Psychiatric Hospital in the Vista West unit. Both of these sites have allowed me to work with diverse populations and have shaped me into the counselor I am today. I work with adults who are carrying grief, anxiety, depression, traumas, and many other struggles. My hope is that I can provide a space for those struggles to be witnessed, validated, and used as fertilizer for growth. I’d love to join you in your journey towards embracing both the beautiful and painful complexities of being human.
